New new beginnings

have moved - new town, new job, new computer (hence taking me a while to find the blog site), new friends and new challenges.
I've been here five weeks - the house is great but I'd enjoy it more if I could sell my old house. the job is going to be a challenge, am finding it hard mainly because of one person i (try to) work with but we have different styles and can't find a middle ground yet.
have started tai chi which is great but hard work and hurts a little.
have had a hair cut and have a fringe (sort of ) for the first time since i don't know when. i have an annoying keyboard that jumps as i type - so enough for now.
but i am back...

Day by day

Thursday - new job offer
Friday - Tom Waits and the world's best ever pub guitarist
Saturday - Mamma Mia and Irish comedy at its best and worst
Sunday - a stroll along the shore line, sunny spells and showers
Monday - another job offer, contracts to sign and bags to pack.

Why is it that sometimes life drifts on relentlessly with nothing changing, effluent flowing by in the turgid stream of contemporary dreams, then, suddenly, things happen quickly, life as you know it morphs into something new, something bewilderingly exciting.

The loss of Mars

Just finished reading Kim Stanley Robinson's Mars trilogy and feel like I've left friends behind. What a great way of examining possibilities both scientific and political.

No time to blog

Been so focused on Red Mars that haven't had the spare attention to think about blogging, barely make it through work without having some weird, Mars-related trip out. But now I'm edging towards the end of the book and am getting nervous about not having the next installment at my fingertips... do I read fast to enjoy or slow to make it last?

Reading it on the train got me frowns from my Nuts and The Sun wielding colleague. Go figure. Apparently I'm the freaky one.

Weekends

I wish every weekend had three days in it. I've tidied and cleaned and washed and planted and allotmented (!) and visited friends and studied a little and still had time to start a new story and watch some films.
Tomorrow it's back to the drudgery of the working week and the struggle to make weekdays more full of meaning and less about surviving intact.
The new story is one I've had the idea for from a couple of years ago - it's very dark and I'm not sure I'll enjoy writing it or that anyone would enjoy reading it. But the time feels right to at least start. So here we go...

Some weeks

Some weeks are worse than others. Some weeks everything seems to go wrong and nothing goes right. All the things that go wrong are significant and will take time, effort and money to sort out. I wake up reluctant to get out of bed to face the day but knowing that there is no viable option.
In the middle of a week like this the sun will shine and I will feel as happy as I ever can. I rejoice at being able to breath the fresh spring air and savour each instant. These moments have been rare this week...
